Children in Yemen are living through the worst humanitarian crisis of our generation
Devastating conflict has left over 20 million people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Over half of these are children.
After seven long years of war, desperate families in Yemen are being forced to make agonising decisions.
Thousands of children, especially girls, are forced into marriage or work as families struggle to put food on the table. They miss out on school and an education to help their families survive.
It’s terrifying to think that this is the reality for so many young girls in Yemen. Torn from everything they know to marry a stranger when they’re still just a child, or put their lives at risk doing dangerous and backbreaking work is not a childhood.
We can’t let this happen to a whole generation of girls.
War Child are working around the clock to reach girls and their families before it’s too late. Our local staff are supporting families with basic essentials, so girls can stay in school and out of work.
I’m grateful to War Child and I hope more children around us at the camp who work every day collecting scrap metal can join school, and that their parents find an alternative way to earn a living.Bushra, Almeda's Mum
